What does it mean to be kinky?

From the moment we’re born, society begins to condition each of us in countless ways. All of us learn the roles we’re supposed to fulfill, how to carry ourselves, right and wrong ways to behave, and countless other specifics. Nowhere is this process more apparent than in our lives as sexual beings.

img_3351Think of it for just a few minutes. How many different stereotypical ways to act can you think of?

Individually, and as a couple, we find many examples. There’s no need to rehash the list, because you already know. All of those rules about what we should or shouldn’t do – they come from a one-size-fit’s-all paradigm. But humans don’t function like that and one size does not fit everybody. Not clothes, nor politics, nor religion. Especially not when it comes to our sexual identities. Not in anything.

In the kinky world, there are folks who believe that if you do X, Y, and Z, you’re a lifestyler, or a true BDSMer. Otherwise, you’re vanilla and only think you’re kinky. We believe it’s safe to say that most kinksters are rebels and have decided to take a path to fulfillment different from most people. We choose not to let society dictate who or how we love, or what normal looks like in the bedroom. (or in any other room)

Which gets us back to the question. What does it mean to be kinky?

Here’s the thing. You get to decide whether or not you’re a kinkster. Nobody else does. Kink isn’t a checklist you follow through to completion. It’s a journey where the destination isn’t always your goal. All of the experiences – good, mediocre, and not so good – are the road signs as you drive down the pervy highway of life.

Our advice is to open yourself to experiences, make new friends, learn about yourself, and enjoy the ride. Because remember, kink isn’t about what you do. It’s all about who you are.
